Photography Workshop and Tour FAQs
Answers to common questions about our small-group wildlife photography workshops and tours.
-
A photography workshop is instruction-focused and designed for photographers who want hands-on guidance in the field. Workshops include active teaching on exposure, composition, wildlife behavior, camera settings, and image review.
A photography tour is experience-focused, with more emphasis on access, travel logistics, and being in the right place at the right time. While instruction is still available, tours typically offer a more relaxed pace and are often suitable for both photographers and non-photographer companions.
Both formats maintain small group sizes and are intentionally designed around light, wildlife behavior, and maximizing photographic opportunity.
-
Our trips are designed for photographers of all levels — from beginners seeking guidance to experienced photographers refining their work. Small group sizes allow instruction to be tailored to individual experience levels.
-
Most trips are limited to six photographers. Small groups allow better vehicle positioning, more personal instruction, and greater flexibility in changing conditions.
-
Select tours may accommodate non-photographer guests depending on logistics and space. Please inquire directly for details.
-
Instruction is hands-on and takes place in the field. Topics may include exposure in challenging light, composition, wildlife behavior, camera settings, and image review. Teaching is adapted to each participant’s skill level and goals.
-
Each trip lists a designated meeting location, such as Bozeman, Montana for Yellowstone programs. Detailed arrival information is provided after registration.
-
Many trips are all-inclusive and include lodging, meals, and in-workshop transportation. Specific inclusions are outlined on each individual trip page.
-
A deposit secures your spot. The remaining balance is due by the date listed on the individual trip page.
-
Because trips involve advance lodging and transportation commitments, deposits are typically non-refundable. Travel insurance is strongly recommended to protect your investment.
-
Telephoto lenses are recommended for wildlife-focused trips. Extra batteries, proper cold-weather protection, and weather-appropriate clothing are essential. A detailed gear and packing guide is provided prior to departure.
-
Most trips are moderately active. Photography typically takes place near vehicles with short walks in varying terrain. Physical expectations are outlined on each specific trip page.
-
Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed. Animals move freely and conditions change daily. Each trip is designed to maximize opportunity through timing, experience, and flexibility.
-
Daily plans adapt to light, wildlife behavior, and weather. Flexibility allows us to respond to conditions rather than follow a rigid schedule.
